Synopsis
Fünf Städte in fünf Nächten. Die Dunkelheit schafft Intimität. Das Licht bündelt und lenkt den Blick. Von Thessaloniki im Südosten über Novi Sad, Linz, Essen bis Liverpool im Nordwesten führt die Reise auf einer Diagonale quer durch Europa.

Der Film dokumentiert das Fabrikanten-Projekt Botschaft Europa: Mit Stirnlampen ausgerüstete Künstler, Lehrer, Geschäftsleute, Regisseure und eine Drag Queen lotsen im Schutz der Dunkelheit in die Hinterzimmer Europas und zeigen, welche Schauplätze und Nebenschauplätze ihnen am Herzen liegen – von den Abraumhalden einer stillgelegten Zeche über eine verruchte Musikerkneipe von Thessaloniki oder den Strich von Liverpool bis zur neu errichteten, im Balkankrieg zerbombten Donaubrücke von Novi Sad.

Five cities in five nights. Darkness creates intimacy. Light concentrates the view. From Thessaloniki in the southeast through Novi Sad, Linz, Essen, to Liverpool in the northwest, the journey takes us diagonally all the way through Europe.
The film documents the project Botschaft Europa: In teams of two we explored five selected European cities at night. Residents of the cities equipped with headlamps lead us to special places of their choice. Unknown places became familiar for strangers. And locals re-discovered their well known quarters.
